Swim 21
Swim 21 is the ASA quality mark for Clubs that reach appropriate levels of excellence in their planning and operation and is based on the Sport England “Clubmark” model. It is the cornerstone for the development plans of both the ASA and British Swimming for the next five years which cover all aspects of swimming from learn to swim through to Olympic success.
There are four levels for accreditation, Teaching, Skill Development, Competitive Development and Performance and this enables Clubs to be assessed according to the main focus of their activities. Although the levels are of course different, the standards required in terms planning and operational excellence are equal.
The Swim 21 scheme is also about helping to create development pathways so that swimmers can find the right environment to suit their personal aims. Swimmers wanting to access top flight training and competition may join Maxwell
from other local Clubs and Learn to Swim schemes. Swim 21 encourages strong links between organisations to help swimmers in any moves and to help share in best practice amongst Coaches and Teachers.
To help provide the pathways for swimmers and share best practice in teaching and coaching, Maxwell have implemented two new initiatives called Passport to Development and Passport to Performance. If you are a swimmer or teacher in a Learn to Swim scheme then you should read about Passport to Development here. If you are already a competitive swimmer or coach competitive swimmers then please check out Passport to Performance here. For more details contact Head Coach Kevin Brooks (click here for contact page).
Equally, we also have a responsibility to help swimmers as they become more and more successful, hence our links with British Swimming and the increased number of swim camps the Club has undertaken in 50m facilities during the past year.
Accreditation at Performance level fully complements our own Club aim of “providing our swimmers with the opportunity to achieve their full potential”. But the work doesn’t stop now, in fact its really just beginning as we have to make sure that all the policies and standards developed in the process of achieving accreditation are continually maintained and monitored.
