British Record for the GB Relay Team as Gibbons also makes the Semi Finals
Craig Gibbons has qualified as the 7th fastest swimmer for Saturdays 100m Free Final at the European SC Championships in Istanbul, Turkey!!
 
In todays heats (Friday 11th) he went a 47.58 and in the Semi Finals he went 47.36 making that the 2nd 2nd fastest swim he's ever done! You can see Craig's Semi Final tonight on the highlights programme on British Eurosport at 6:30pm !
 
Yesterday Craig also swam in the Individual 50m Free setting a new official PB of 22.03. He later swam in the 4x50m Medley Relay (Freestyle Leg) to do a lifetimes best split of 21.10 on the last leg helping the British Squad to a new BRITISH RECORD TIME.

British Record for Freestyle Relay
Craig Gibbons finished his European Championship campaign off in style last night capping a truly stunning weekend of performances for him. The final race of the event was the 4x50 Male Freestyle Relay. Gibbons led the British team on the first leg knowing that he had to perform, and he certainly did; clocking a time of 21.49. This time smashes his previous PB of 22.03 and now makes him the 3rd fastest British Swimmer of all time behind Adam Brown (21.46) and the British Record 21.13 set by the legend - Mark Foster in 2001. The British Quartet went on to set a new British Record of 1:25.41 closing the European Championships of in style for the British Team.
 
Over the course of the weekend Craig performed to astonishing levels setting a new PB of 46.90 in the 100 Freestyle (only 0.15 outside of the British SC Record) and helping the 4x50 Medley relay set a another new British Record.
 
Craig, now part of 2 British records commented "I'm so happy with these times, it's been a long time coming and to perform like this at such a prestigious event has helped my confidence so much - I can't wait to get back into training and focus on next year".
 
Kevin, Craig's coach said "Craig has done Me, Maxwell and British Swimming so proud. The last 4 months have had there ups and downs but he's come through strong and he's really proving to everyone how much talent he has and more importantly that he can convert that into stunning performances when it counts. Technically Craig is awesome and coupled with these performances they're going to help him so much mentally in going forward to qualify for the Commonwealth Games next year and ultimately London 2012.
