Maxwell storm to victory in the Home Counties League
This weekend saw Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Club make an impressive start in the first round of the Home Counties League. As well as Maxwell, the fixture involved teams from Bicester, Aylesbury and District, Witney A, Witney B and
the host Club Oxford competing in a total of fifty races held at the Temple Cowley Pool.
All of Maxwell's swimmers made a positive contribution to the success of the team, emerging with 41 first places and nine second places in a mixture of individual and relay races. With points awarded according to finishing place, six for first, five for second and so on, the results saw Maxwell accruing 79 points more than their next nearest rivals.
All age groups did well and
prospects for the future certainly appear very promising as the 11 and Under Boys and Girls won all their races. With so many wins it is impossible to congratulate all those that took part individually, but the following are noteworthy in having achieved short course personal bests in their respective events. Ollie Brewer (16), 1.03.98 in the 100 metres Individual Medley and 1.03.74 in the 100 metres Backstroke; Bradley Alder (11), 38.65 in the 50 metres Backstroke; Aaron Lee (12), 36.90 in
the 50 metres Breaststroke; Emily Prichard (15), 1.08.33 in the 100 metres Backstroke; Tom Mayho (14). 1.05.96 in the 100 metres Backstroke; Sophia Cliffe (10), 34.56 in the 50 metres Freestyle; Liam O'Brien (11), 31.81 in the 50 metres Freestyle; Kenny Cliffe (12), 36.59 in the 50 metres Backstroke; Ellie Bunce (11) 44.73 in the 50 metres Breaststroke; Alfie Bones (11), 45.99 in the 50 metres Breaststroke; Leah Picillo (10), 36.62 in the 50 metres Butterfly; Alexander Brown (11),
38.91 in the 50 metres Butterfly; and Anna Evison (13), 30.52 in the 50 metres Freestyle.
Coach Ally Brewer was delighted with the result. She considered that the performance from the Girls 15 and Under Medley Relay Team of Sophie Elgar, Hollie McIntyre, Emily Pritchard and Georgi Parkins was particularly noteworthy, in finishing over 30 seconds in front of the second place team. She also said "Well done to the other relay teams who in some events were 16 seconds ahead of
the nearest competition. Thank you to Bill Elgar, Coach poolside and Hannah Pearce for helping sort the team out. Special thanks to Tony Cliffe, as one of the time keepers for the event." The next round of this competition is due to take place on Saturday 16th February 2008.
