Maxwell retain Home Counties League Trophy

Hot on the heels of the successes of the County Championships, Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Club recently retained the Home Counties League Trophy. With swimmers of all ages competing for the Club in the final round held at Aquavale, Maxwell amassed an impressive 238 points, with Luton 'A' finishing in second place with a total of 194 points.

Over the course of the evening, the fifty races yielded 26 first places, 9 second places and 6 thirds for Maxwell swimmers. Considerable thanks go to Ally Brewer who as Team Manager was able to select and guide, what proved to be a strong team to this achievement.

Hannah Askew got things off to a perfect start, winning the Girls Open 100m Individual Medley and followed this up with victories in her Butterfly and Freestyle races. She also contributed to wins in the Freestyle and Medley Relays, where she was ably assisted by Sarah Turner, Hollie McIntyre and Briony Everett. The older Boys also had much success with Ollie Brewer, Steven Slee, David Smith and Jonny Quainton joining forces to win their Freestyle and Medley Relay races, whilst Ollie and Jonny won their respective Backstroke and Freestyle events. The dominance of Maxwell's older swimmers on this stage was further emphasised with a win for Teddy Loveridge in the Boys Open Butterfly.

But it was not only the senior swimmers who were performing well. For the Under 11 Boys Theo Cockrean, James Alley, Adam Mayho and David Witham began well winning the Freestyle Relay, which was followed up by further wins for David and James in their individual Backstroke and Butterfly events respectively. For the Under 13 Girls Abbie Haward impressed in winning her Breaststroke race and she was joined by Emily Martin, Leah Picillo and Ellie Bunce to win the Freestyle Relay. Alfie Bones, Jake Scales, Rhys Hylands and Liam O'Brien combined to win both the Under 13 Boys Freestyle and Medley Relay races, with further first places being achieved by Rhys in the Butterfly and Liam in the Freestyle events.

Double Relay success also came for the Girls Under 15s team of Abi Bunce, Lauren Jones, Cristina Matheson and Anna Evison. Abi also won her Backstroke event and Anna made significant further contributions achieving first places in both her Breaststroke and Freestyle events. Aaron Lee gained victory in the Boys Under 15 Freestyle and also led the way to a Freestyle Relay win for this age group, capably followed by Tom Elgar, Josh Turner and Thomas Kaye.

Keith Stoughton, the Chairman of the Home Counties Leagues presented the trophy to two of the Club's most senior and two of the most junior swimmers at the conclusion of the event.
