Double Gold & British Masters Records for Tom
Congratulations to Tom Smith (19) who took Gold in both the freestyle distance events of 1500m and 800m at the British Masters and S
enior Age group Championships weekend commencing 20th June. Competing at the new International 10 lane 50m pool in Cardiff, Tom took the 1500m race in style leading from the front and finishing more than 20m ahead of his nearest rival in a new British Senior Age group (19
– 24 years) record time of 17 minutes 11.01 seconds.
In the 800m, Tom was pressed for the first 200m by fellow 19 year old Justin Langford from Crawley but stepped up the pace to create a lead of 5m by the halfway mark. The second 400m saw Tom extend his lead to an impressive 25m by the finish. His time of 8 minutes 55.31 seconds again set a new British standard in the Senior Age Group category, improving on the previous record by nearly 5 seconds.
