Maxwell shows strength in depth.

The younger swimmers from Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Club took the opportunity to show how well they have progressed at the recent Bletchley End of Season Meet held at Aqua Vale. Swimmers from Maxwell’s Academy and Skills Development squads made up the majority of the team taking part. This was, for many of them, their first taste of competitive action.

The girls started the ball rolling in the 200m Freestyle, with Emily Smith (10) and Lauren Jones (13) both achieving gold. Rebecca King (9), Phoebe Tipping (11) and Sarah Pritchard (12) all received speeding tickets for being faster than the maximum entry time. The boys kept things going with Ben Aston (10) taking a bronze in the same event. Liam O’Brien (11) and Kieran Coll (13) both gained speeding tickets.

In the 100m Breaststroke, Maxwell swimmers managed to achieve a 1-2-3 in the girls 10 years age group, with Chloe Brewer heading home Emily Smith and Abbey Winterburn in a new personal best time of 1.52.41. Sophia Cliffe’s improvement of 18 seconds meant she was awarded a speeding ticket. In the boys’ event, 9 year olds Adam Mayho and Theo Cockream beat their previous best times to record 34 and 15 second personal bests respectively, winning them speeding tickets. Lee Blackmore (11) swam a hard fought race to achieve a silver medal.

Great performances continued with Roselee Jones (9) and Nick Hendy (11) winning gold in 50m Backstroke and Luke Scales (9) went one better with a speeding ticket. Laura Jones (11), Roselee’s older sister, got in on the act by winning gold for the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 3.23.14.

Maxwell’s Development Coach, Ally Brewer, said “I’m delighted with the progress of all those who have competed today. They have all performed extremely well with their first taste of competition. With the vast majority of them lowering their personal best times, it bodes well for their future and the future of the club with all the talent that has been on display.”

The completion of the Meet saw Maxwell winning the top visiting club trophy with 612 points, with Luton in second place and Newport Pagnell third.
