Success for Maxwell Swimmers at Bletchley Meet

At the end of the final competition weekend of this

In the middle of July Aqua Vale hosted the Bletchley Open Meet attended by about a dozen different Swimming Clubs in the area including Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Club. Overall the Club achieved second place with two of its girls and one boy finishing amongst the five highest points scorers in the Top Girl and Top Boy competition.

Zoe Denning (12) achieved second place in the Top Girl competition picking up Golds in the 100m and 200m Freestyle events in times of 1:14.70 and 2:43.77 respectively and also in the 100m Individual Medley and the 50m Butterfly. She complemented this with Silvers in the 200m Individual Medley and the 50m Breaststroke and a Bronze in the 100m Butterfly. Moreover, in a Meet where swimmers were not awarded medals if they were faster than the specified time for entry, but rather were awarded ‘Speeding tickets’ where this happened, Zoe found herself with two of these from her swims in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events.

Fourth place in the Top Girl competition went to Chloe Brewer (11) who won Golds in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 3.13.79 and the 50m Breaststroke finishing in 47.57. Chloe also won two Silvers, one in the 100m Breaststroke and the other in the 50m Freestyle.

Tom Elgar (13) finished fifth in the Top Boy Competition, He won Gold in a time of 2:53.21 in the 200m Individual Medley and also came first in his age group in the 200m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events. Tom also took two Bronze medals home for his efforts in the 50m and 100m Butterfly.

Roselee Jones (10) also had a good meet gaining four Gold Medals in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke, the 100m Backstroke and the 100m Individual Medley. Other Gold Medal winners were Nicole Bignell (13) 200m Individual Medley, Lauren Jones (14) 100m Backstroke, April Denning (14) 100m Breaststroke, Abbey Winterburn (11) 100m Backstroke, Rebecca King (10) 200m Freestyle, Rebecca Nolte (13) 100m Butterfly and Abbie Haward (11) 100m Butterfly. These swimmers added to their successes with Nicole also winning two Silvers and a Bronze, as well as getting a Speeding ticket, Lauren achieving a Silver and three Speeding tickets, April and Abbey earning Silvers, Rebecca King a Bronze and Rebecca Nolte a Speeding ticket.

Other Multi-Medalists for the Girls were Hope McIntyre and Emily Martin who both gained a Silver and a Bronze and Emily Smith who won two Bronze Medals and earned a Speeding ticket. In addition, Rouxzan Cronje (10), Laura Jones (12) and Mollie Tatlow (12) all won a Bronze, whilst Sophia Cliffe and Anna Evison each earned a Speeding Ticket.

Amongst the other Maxwell boys James Alley (9) deserves a special mention because although he went home without any medals he earned no less than six Speeding tickets. This is indicative of someone who has made significant improvements in their swimming leading up to the event, so well done James. Rhys Hylands (12) also swam really well to gain five Speeding tickets, together with a Gold in the 50m Breaststroke and a Silver over the 100m distance in the same stroke. Joshua Turner (13) achieved two Golds in the 50m and 100m Butterfly and was awarded a Speeding ticket in the 100m Backstroke.

Golds were also won by Finley O’Brien (10) 100m Freestyle, Jake Scales (11) 50m Butterfly and James Cronin (10) 50 Breaststroke. Finley also gained a Silver in the 50m Backstroke and a Speeding ticket in the 200m Freestyle, whilst Jake hurried to three Speeding tickets to go with his Medal.
