Maxwell Swimmers set sights on County Championships.

Maxwell Swim Club played host to 25 visiting clubs from as far afield as Birmingham and the South Coast, for the two day January Maxwell Open meet at the Aqua Vale. With the County Championships starting in March, this was a good opportunity to test their level of fitness and fine tune their performances.
Improved performances started from the very first swim.  Keiran Lindars (11) kicked things off in the first event, the 400 metres Freestyle. He recorded a time of 6:05.80 which lowered his personal best by 10 seconds. Aaron Lee (12) and Rory Kemp (17) took gold in their age groups, with Tom Mayho (14), gaining silver in his. Aaron then went on to take gold in all his remaining events gaining Regional qualifying times along the way. The girls did their part in lowering personal best times across all the age groups. Sophia Cliffe (10) and Olivia Woodrow (10) pushed each other hard to earn gold and silver in the 200m breaststroke.
The Maxwell coaching staff were very interested in the Boys 200 metre Butterfly. It was the first chance they had to see the performance of Teddy Loveridge (16) who was having his first competition after a shoulder injury. He performed really well but said afterwards that the shoulder was still very sore. He was 5 seconds off his personal best but that was to be expected. Also on the comeback trail was Lucy Tucker (15), Lucy has been unable to train regularly due to a long term illness. Her hard work and determination has paid off and earned her silver medals in both the 50 metres and 100 metres Freestyle events.
Maxwell’s junior Great Britain international, Hannah Askew (16), took the opportunity to swim events she would not normally enter. In the 400 metres Freestyle she gained silver behind Ferndown’s Kimberly Rowles, who is also a Great Britain junior international.
Commenting on the meet, Maxwell head coach, Kevin Brooks said "This is a good meet to test the performance levels of the swimmers with the County Championships so close. I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen this weekend, it shows the swimmers are on the right track for a good Counties campaign.”
Maxwell chairman Jonathan Smith praised the hard work of all those that made the event such a success, he said “A lot of work goes on behind the scenes which is not always seen, so I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their time.”
