Success for Maxwell swimmers at the County Championships
Swimmers from Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Club took top honours at the opening weekend of the County Championships, which saw the Boys 1500 metre Freestyle and the Girls 800 metre Freestyle events take place in Milton Keynes.
It was a one-two-three for the Boys in the Senior Championship, with Rory Kemp (18) winning Gold in a time of 16:19.75, followed by Ollie Brewer (16) who secured Silver in a time of 16:35.10 and Tom Smith (17) completing the clean-sweep with a time of 16:55.29 to take the Bronze.
Ollie Brewer's swim was more than 45 seconds faster than his previous best and this also gained him the Gold in the Junior Championship. Jonny Quainton (15) took nearly a minute off his personal best to achieve Bronze in the Junior Championship with a time of 17:15.37.
Other creditable performances came from Alex Pitts (17) and Thomas Mayho (14) who both reduced their previous best times by over a minute to record 17:06.55 and 17:30.43 respectively.
Of the younger swimmers Aaron Lee (13) and Joshua Turner (13) both performed well producing times of 19:00.56and 19:22.66 respectively, representing considerable improvements on their previous best swims.
For the Girls Julie Rampley (18) and Emily Pritchard (15) came first and second in the Senior Championship, with times of 9:13.11 and 9:22.65, the latter being good enough for Emily to pick up the Gold in the Junior Championship. Hollie McIntyre (15) secured Bronze in the
Junior Championship with a time of 9:46.62, which meant that Maxwell swimmers had taken nine out of the twelve top three Championship placings overall.
There were many other good performances amongst Maxwell's Girls, the most notable of which came from Corinne James (13) 9:55.71; Anna Evison (13) 9:56.03; Rebecca Nolte (12) 10:27.57; Lauren Pitts (14) 10:27.72; Emily Martin (11) 10:29.15; and Abi Bunce (13) 10:32.23, who all improved their previous best times by 20 seconds or more.
