Continued success for Maxwell swimmers at County Championships
The second weekend of the County Championships comprised the 400 metres Freestyle and Individual Medley events taking place at Milton Keynes, with more success evident for Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Club competitors.
In the Boys Freestyle event Rory Kemp (18) won a thrilling race to become the Senior Champion edging out his nearest rival by just 17-hundredths of a second to record a National qualifying time of 4:07.06.
Ollie Brewer (16) won Gold in his Age Group with a time of 4:15.61, which earned him second place in the Junior and third in the Senior Championships. Other creditable swims came from Tom Smith (17), Thomas Mayho (14) and Liam O'Brien (11) who all achieved Bronze in their Age Groups; Kenny Cliffe (12) who won Gold in his Age Group with a time of 5:00.08; and Luke Scales (10) who also won Gold in his recording a time of 5:42.28.
Of this youngest swimmer coach Ally Brewer said "I
would like to say how delighted I was with my Swimmer Luke Scales in the 400 metres Freestyle. He knocked an amazing 47 seconds off his entry time gaining himself a first place and a Regional qualifying time. This is my first ever swimmer from the Development Squad to gain a Regional time".
In the Individual Medley Ollie Brewer and Kenny Cliffe both won their second Age Group Golds of the day, with the first of these being achieved in a time of 4:49.28, which was good enough to
earn Ollie a Silver in the Junior Championship. He was joined on the podium in this Championship event by Thomas Mayho who took Bronze, with his 5:05.30 also earning him Silver amongst the 14 year olds category. Other Age Group medallists were Tom Smith who took a Bronze and Alfie Bones (11) and Jonny Quainton (15) who both gained Silvers.
Maxwell's Girls became Junior and Senior Champions in both the 400 metres Freestyle and Individual Medley events. Hannah Askew
(16), Emily Pritchard (15) and Sarah Powell (15) took Gold, Silver and Bronze at both Junior and Senior levels in the Freestyle with times of 4:26.94, 4:36.48 and 4:42.87 respectively. In fact the final and fastest heat of the event comprised of all Maxwell swimmers, with Sarah Turner (19) winning Gold in the 17 years and over Age Group; and Georgina Parkins (15) and Julie Rampley (18) taking a Bronze in their respective Age Groups.
Other successes in this event came for Sophia Cliffe (10) and Sophie Elgar (14) winning Golds in times of 5:31.60 and 4:55.99 respectively; with Caitlin Wheatley (10) winning a Silver and Ashling Street (16) earning Bronze.
Julie Rampley won the Senior Championship in the Individual Medley in a time of 5:04.58 and Emily Pritchard took Gold in the Junior Championship in 5:13.08, a time which also saw her gain Silver in the Senior event.
It was a 1-2-3 in the 10 year olds category with Leah Picillo winning Gold in an impressive time of 6:17.53, followed by Caitlin Wheatley and Sophia Cliffe taking Silver and Bronze respectively.
Maxwell's haul of medals was completed by a series of Age Groups third places bringing Bronze to Emily Martin (11), Rebecca Nolte (12), Anna Evison (13), Georgina Parkins (15) and Fay Pearce (17).
