Brothers from Maxwell Swim Club compete for top honours at Bexleyheath Swim Meet

In the middle of December, competitors from Aylesbury-based Maxwell Swim Cub took part in the Beckenham Rising Stars Meet held at Bexleyheath, at the fringe of London with Kent, with opposition in the form of Swimming Clubs primarily from London and surrounding counties.

The Meet was certainly a success story for the Mayho brothers. Tom, aged 14 came away with two Golds and two Silvers, with his wins coming in the 200 metre Freestyle and 200 metre Individual Medley events in times of 2:09.04 and 2:28.17 respectively.  On this occasion though, his success was surpassed by his brother Adam who in the nine year old age group achieved three Golds and two Silvers. He also won the 200 metre Freestyle and 200 metre Individual Medley events, but added a victory in the 50 metre Backstroke in a time of 43.88. Indeed Adam's successes were sufficient to also win him the Top Boy competition.

Other medals for the Boys were won by Kieran Coll (13) and Owain Spencer (9) who picked up a Silver and Bronze respectively, Kieran in the 100 metre Freestyle even in a time of 1:02.69 and Owain in the 50 metre Butterfly which he completed in 49.19 seconds.

Maxwell's girls achieved a haul of twelve medals from this Meet. Their only Gold came from Anna Evison (13) whose time of 2:39.66 was quicker than any of her competitors in the 200 metre Individual Medley.  She also achieved a Silver in the 50 metre Breaststroke event. Emily Martin (10) won a total of four Silvers in her Freestyle and Butterfly events and added a Bronze in the 100 metre Backstroke.  A time of 1:42.41 was good enough to win a Silver for Abbie Haward (11) in the 100 metre Breaststroke and she also won a Gold over the 50 metre distance for this stroke. The other medallist for the Club was Lauren Pitts (14) who won three Bronzes for her swims in the 200 metre Freestyle, 50 metre Backstroke and 200 metre Individual Medley events.

Coach Ally Brewer expressed her thanks for the continued support that the swimmers and their parents had given for this meet, which had originally been due to take place in September.  Its postponement had been necessary because the original venue, Crystal Palace, had been closed at short notice for refurbishment. She was impressed not only with the commitment and achievements of the swimmers on the day, but also that so many had made the effort to travel this far to attend in the run-up to Christmas.
